   This Z-Wave adapter works flawlessly in Home Assistant along side my MG24 SONOFF Zigbee dongle. Very stable radio with no drop outs and it easily covers my entire first floor. Set up could not be any easier – just plug it in and add the auto-discovered Z-Wave integration in HA. Using the HA companion app to scan QR codes directly in to HA makes adding new Z-Wave devices easy. The connection is solid even several rooms away and the network has no interference issues even with numerous wifi/thread/zigbee devices and radios running thanks to z-wave being on a separate frequency. The included extension cable allows the dongle to be placed away from any other radios to provide the best stability. Highly recommended.

   Sonoff is getting into ZWAVE, I like it.
   I am a fan of Sonoff products. And when I saw they are getting into ZWAVE I was stoked. The USB Dongle is well made out of quality materials. Easy to install and setup in Home Assistant. Home Assistant locates it and installs everything for you. Very good connectivity and range, at least in my tests and no lag that I could detect.You get a 1 meter USB dongle extension wire. You should always use that to minimize interference from you HA server.I comes fully assembled and the antenna moves easily to accommodate most installations.Overall this is a nice dongle that supports Long Range ZWAVE. With all the other options out there this is the top contender.

   Great Z-wave controller dongle if you need to add that to your home automation setup.
   This is a great dongle for Z-wave controller functionality. Because it uses the 800 series chip, it is compatible with long-range devices, and the antenna is sufficient for most applications. That being said, something like the Nabu Casa ZWA-2 will get you the most optimal range and output, but this will be fine for 99% of users. It’s straightforward and easy to setup with a hub and exhibits no lag like I’ve seen with other setups, especially built-in controllers. I would not hesitate to recommend this!

   Great dongle – Works great w/ Home Assistant.
   I had put some zwave stuff in my shed, and also out by the pool, and had occasional issues with the devices falling off the network. After putting this dongle in place, I haven’t yet had the problem. I dont know if it’s the big antenna or not, but at least that makes me feel like it SHOULD do better! I haven’t used it too long yet so time will tell, but so far, so good, and Sonoff has quality stuff in my experience..

   Plug and Play!
   Plugged this into home assistant and I don’t think I even needed to go looking for the integration. Home assistant detected it and installed it after confirmation. There’s been no issue using this and the ZBT-1 at the same time, and I have both networks running in my home now. This was my first time adding a z-wave device to my home assistant so the required qr code scan was a surprise, but it has been completely seamless!

   Sonoff Z-Wave dongle.Sonoff has historically made great Zigbee dongles – and now they finally have a great Z-Wave dongle.There is a lot to love about this ZWave controller. Unlike many of the incumbents, Sonoff decided to do several things right the first time.It’s based on the latest 800 series EFR32ZG23 chip, so it supports ZWave LR and benefits from good firmware support provided by Si Labs.It comes with a USB extension cable, which is mandatory for radio dongles. Radios can be absolutely clobbered by the RF emissions of the USB 3.0 ports on your computer or Raspberry Pi if you plug them in directly.It comes with a proper 2db antenna, which is required to get the full performance for ZWave Long-Range. In theory this will also improve the battery life of direct-connected battery powered ZWave devices since they don’t have to use as much energy to be heard or to listen.It’s a nice form-factor with a well-shielded case.I’ve tested it with Home Assistant ZWave JS and so far it works well. (You need HA 2025.12.2 or later for auto-detect to work.)This is a viable less expensive alternative to the “best” ZWave controller on the market right now – and at less than half the price, the real-world performance is essentially the same.ZWave by its nature is not as open and flexible firmware-wise as Zigbee, so unfortunately it can’t be flashed as a Zniffer since it’s a “retail” device.    The Sonoff Z-Wave 800 Dongle Plus is a ideal for anyone looking to build a robust local smart home. Based on the EFR32ZG23 chip, this dongle feels more responsive compared to my olderr 700 series stick.The build quality is excellent, featuring a solid aluminium housing that acts as a natural heat sink. The stick itself is compact, the antenna makes up most of the size. The included USB extension cable is definitely worth using. Placing the dongle away from the main computer or Raspberry Pi is really helps to prevent electromagnetic interference from stifling the signal, and I found the range was significantly better when used this way.The setup process was seamless within my Home Assistant. It was instantly recognised by the Z-Wave JS integration, and I had my first few sensors paired within minutes.I was impressed by the signal stability across my house. Even with several brick walls in between, the connection remained solid, likely thanks to the 800 series improved sensitivity and the adjustable external antenna.For those with outbuildings or larger gardens, the Z-Wave Long Range support offers a much greater reach than standard Zigbee equivalents. It operates on a different frequency to your home Wi-Fi, meaning you won’t face the common congestion issues that plague other smart home protocols.For the price, this is probably the best Z-wave dongle currently available and works brilliantly with Home Assistant.

    📡 This is a USB Z-Wave 800 series dongle with an external 2 dBi adjustable antenna and a short USB extension lead. The metal-bodied dongle itself feels solid and well finished, in keeping with recent Sonoff hardware. I am using it solely with Home Assistant, where it was detected almost immediately via the Z-Wave integration. Following the recommended setup, the system was installed, initialised, and ready to pair devices in well under five minutes. The extension lead works as intended, though in my case it was not long enough to reach the higher mounting position I use for other coordinators, so I replaced it with a longer USB extension cable.📡 In use, the dongle has been stable and predictable. I run Zigbee and Matter/Thread coordinators alongside it, and I have not seen any interference between the radios. Indoor range has been stronger than Zigbee in my house, particularly through brick walls and out into the garden, although I have not tested extreme Z-Wave long range distances. Pairing has been quick and secure, with security behaving exactly as expected. After running continuously for 24 hours, the aluminium casing remained cool to the touch, and there have been no dropouts or devices falling offline so far, though only longer use will confirm how this holds up.📡 This dongle is aimed squarely at users who want to add Z-Wave to a Home Assistant system without relying on a proprietary hub, and it suits that role well.     Als mir der ‘SONOFF Z-Wave 800 Dongle’ zum Test angeboten wurde, habe ich dankend angenommen, da ich hoffte, er könnte meine Home Automation Szenerie bereichern. Der Dongle kommt als USB-Stick in einer komplett plastikfreien Verpackung, was ich toll finde. In der schmalen Schachtel findet sich außerdem noch ein ca. 1m langes USB-A Verlängerungskabel, sowie eine rudimentäre Anleitung. Hauptsächlich findet man dort einen QR-Code der zur eigentlichen Dokumentation führt.Der Stick macht gleich einen sehr wertigen Eindruck. Das Gehäuse ist aus Aluminium und sehr sauber verarbeitet. An der Oberseite befindet sich eine ca. 15cm lange Antenne, die zwar fest angebaut, aber dreh- und kippbar ist. Um genau zu sein, 90° zwischen waagrecht und senkrecht kippbar und 180° drehbar. Weiter aber nicht, was wohl nicht immer beachtet wird. Deshalb liegt dem Stick ein extra Merk- bzw. Warnetikett bei, das darauf aufmerksam macht. Wie auch immer lässt sich die Reichweite durch die passende Ausrichtung optimieren und natürlich tragen die 2dBi Gain dieser externen Antenne auch zu einer besseren Verbindung bei. Der Sonoff Dongle unterstützt auch das Long Range Protokoll von Z-Wave. Ansonsten sollte hier mal gesagt werden, dass Z-Wave kein besonders weiter reichendes System darstellt. Es ist ein Funksystem auf 868MHz Basis (in Europa), das auch nur wenige mW Sendeleistung zur Verfügung hat. Normalerweise sollte 100-150 Meter zwar drin sein, aber die garantierte Reichweite eines Z-Wave Gerätes beträgt laut Spezifikationen nur 40 Meter. Es hängt also hauptsächlich von den baulichen Begebenheiten ab und die 868MHz durchdringen Wände deutlich besser als 2,4GHz Systeme. Ein speziell gerüstetes ‘Long Range System’ ist Z-Wave nicht. Der Sonoff Dongle scheint aber das Maximale heraus zu holen.In der Praxis habe ich den Sonoff Dongle testweise in meine Home Assistant System eingebunden, was erst mal wirklich unglaublich einfach, schnell und automatisch erfolgt. Quasi anstecken, anwählen, ok drücken, fertig. Damit habe ich dann zwei Schaltsteckdosen getestet, die sich in meiner Garage doch relativ weit weg und hinter einigen Hindernissen befinden. Beide Dosen waren mit dem Z-Wave Stick tadellos und schnell erreichbar. Bislang hatte es dahingehend ab und zu ‘gehakelt’ und Befehle gingen verloren. Ich war vom sofortigen Erfolg in der Tat angenehm überrascht. Der Sonoff Z-Wave Dongle erweitert die Funkfähigkeiten eines Home Automation Systems doch ungemein.Ich hatte den Stick übrigens gleich mit dem mitgelieferten Verlängerungskabel angeschlossen und dabei erst bemerkt, dass dieses Kabel alleine etwas undurchdacht ist. Ohne weitere Hilfsmittel kann man den Stick damit schlecht positionieren. Ich habe mir vorerst mit einer Kunststoffklemme beholfen. Besser wäre es, wenn Sonoff eine Art Sockel mit USB-Buchse an dem Kabel mitliefern würde. Auf die Dauer und wenn ich den genauen Standort festgelegt habe, werde ich die Befestigung der USB-Buchse wohl mit einem dicken Klecks Heißkleber erledigen.Mein Fazit: der ‘SONOFF Z-Wave 800 Dongle’ ist wirklich ein tadelloses Stück Hardware. Alles wirkt sehr gut verarbeitet und die Materialien sind edel. Die Inbetriebnahme ist mit den gängigen Systemen wirklich ein Kinderspiel und läuft vollautomatisch ab. Für all das halte ich den Preis auch für angemessen. Von mir bekommt der ‘SONOFF Z-Wave 800 Dongle’ jedenfalls sehr gerne 5 Sterne und eine 100%ige Kaufempfehlung.

    I have used a fair few Sonoff devices within my smart home setup so was keen to have a go at installing this Z-Wave gateway as it is compatible with Home Assistant which I use as my central controller. My hope was that I would be able to consolidate a bunch of different brands of Z-Wave devices which currently all have their own hubs/gateways.As any HA user will know with such a variety of options for running HA, setup will be slightly different for everyone however I found this was quickly recognised and no more difficult to install than most other hardware.I had to spend some time moving devices over to this gateway but it is now functioning reliably and has achieved what I had hoped. Range is good and all devices from various brands are connected reliably.Build quality is good although this is rather large so may be an issue fitting behind some machines. There is however a USB extension cable included which I highly recommend using anyway to site the aerial away from possible interference.Priced at around £38 this is a great device for those looking to consolidate Z-Wave devices for a cleaner setup.
