Smart Matter/WiFi Lock that works
Worth the money for a Matter/WiFi smart door lock.I don’t have a Hub, just an old Amazon fire tablet and it works just fine. Downloaded the app and connected, created pins and off I was, seeing when the codes are used and notified when door opens and locks. If you have kids it comes in handy as it allows you to know all that info.Installation is not complicated, build quality is sturdy.Battery life is good, but you have to use name brand batteries for that, cheap type don’t last as long. The con: Not rechargeable or finger print enabled, no Bluetooth or Zigbee, Just WiFi.App is simple to setup and use.Worth the money since the app gives you internet access back to the lock and get status.Overall, matter was my sell point. I could have gone zigbee or just a cheap Chinese WiFi BT model. But this trumps them on reliability.

Kwikset Halo Select: A Smart Lock Worth Every Penny
The Kwikset Halo Select Smart Lock deserves every bit of this 5 star review.Installation was straightforward. The Kwikset app provides a great guided setup with clear visuals. Even if you’re not handy, you’ll find it simple to remove your old lock and fit this one.Getting the Halo Select connected to my Wi-Fi was quick and easy. Once I paired it with the Kwikset app on my phone, I could lock and unlock my front door from anywhere. My favorite feature is the ability to create access codes for anyone. I am even able to schedule codes to only work at certain times for my for my dog walker. What really impressed me is that this lock is future-proofed with support for the new Matter smart home standard. Knowing that the Halo Select can adapt to new tech means I won’t need to replace it anytime soon. It works great with my Alexa and also appears to work with Google Home, Apple Home and SmartThings.Last but not least, I chose this lock over others is because of the brand. Kwikset has a strong reputation for making high quality locks. Paying a little more to be confident that I’m buying the best lock to protect my home and my family is well worth the price and this product is built to last.I’m extremely happy with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a smart lock!

Touchpad is Useless with Matter
I read in advance that setting up guest codes was not supported in Matter. I did NOT know that there would be no entry code at all and that even locking the door with the keypad would become impossible!I’m not sure how much of this is due to limitations in the Matter standard, or Kwikset’s limitations, or something in the Home Assistant setup I use. I just know that I have gone from a Schlage Z-wave lock with a working keypad to a Kwikset Matter over Thread lock with no keypad. I would have to pull out my phone or a key every time through the door.I won’t be returning this, partly because I had to drill a bigger-than-standard 2 1/8″ hole in my door to make this fit. I have cancelled my order for a different model of Halo lock which has not shipped yet.I will be switching back to Wi-Fi mode, losing the ability to create automations and cutting the battery life in half. Maybe there will be software improvements and I can try again next year. The good news is that the Kwikset app, when I used it for initial setup was nice. Much better than what I had been using with the Schlage. If you are buying this lock to use with Wi-Fi you will be happy.I am also very pleased with the re-keying feature. It is one of the reasons I selected this over other brands. I bought several new deadbolts as part of this process, and keying one to match the Halo was impressively easy. Some notes I took during installation:- As above, the through hole is larger than most, 2.125″ rather than 1.5″. Drilling the larger hole without a center point for the bit took some creativity.- The hole in the edge of the door was the right diameter, but I had to deepen it about 1/2″.- There is only a round-cornered cover plate for the door edge. Regular Kwikset locks come with both the round and square-cornered plates. We need the square-cornered one for this to look right.- The Duracell batteries straight from their packaging are reported at 80% capacity.

On the expensive side but a quality smart lock that supports WiFi and Matter.
Installation was a breeze and Kudos the creators on the app’s install guide as it made the step by step process a breeze. I was replacing a single cylinder Kwikset deadbolt so the whole were in the right places. I initially configured the lock to Wi-Fi as it has more robust functionality than Matter but I am hoping that Matter functions eventually catch up. Also I am hoping that in the future they update to firmware to somehow allow the lock to fall back to Matter functionality if WiFi fails. I ordered the black finish as there was no antiqued brass option. The exterior display is elegant and easy to read and the option to add random numbers when putting in my code is a nice touch. The app works well unlocking and locking. It works with Alexa as well to unlock and lock (with a verbal code you create). You can create many codes for the house and temp codes that expire based on your input. The unit seems well made, stays connected this far and time will tell on battery life (it comes with 4AA Duracell)

Easy to install, easy to set up with a few minor hiccups.
The lock worked great and was easy to set up and install. I did need to restart the app and reset the lock to get it to connect to wifi. It errored out on that step a few times which was frustrating. The only other complaint is this was clearly not a”new” item. It had been opened and returned. The box contained all of the correct hardware, but the hardware bags had been opened.
